Today we learnt about the uses of the refinery distillator. We learnt how to operate a distillation column and also learnt 3 different experiments which included the 3:1, 5:1 ratio and total reflux. Total reflux proved to be the most efficient and fastest way of distillation. We were taught on how to read and take the measurements and collected our results. The results are shown below.
What did you learn today?
Today we learnt that teamwork is most important if we want to complete things faster and quickly and we also learnt how to be productive by doing and completing our blogs during the free time we have while waiting for the experiment to be complete and the results to be out.
How do you feel about today’s activities?
I feel that from today's activities, I have learnt more about distillation columns and how it functions as I was never taught about this throughout my entire secondary one. We had to do our own work which involves our self-discipline and also more independent as we had to do the work ourselves. However, at some points in time we required help from our mentors and our professor Mr Suraj. They were kind and patient and always there for us if we needed any help from them.
I am Javier from group 3-5 and my group members are Richman and Joshua Yew. We are doing a project called "Operation of a model refinery distillation column" which we will be going to NTU to do it. It is a 3 day program which all of us hope it will be interesting and we are able to learn many new things not taught in school.
